Microsoft is pushing IE7 (Internet Explorer 7) out via automatic updates on NOVEMBER 1st, 2006. Is your GoldMine version compatible?
The answer is NO if you’re using version 6.70.50123 (or earlier). Some problems include GM+Views not working, tiny font sizes in e-mail reading/writing windows, images not being displayed in e-mail, activity notes fields not working properly, the <H> button not appearing on GM+View and e-mail template edit modes, etc.
Obviously, some of these are pretty serious issues and could definitely put a damper on your GoldMine use. For this reason, I am advising my customers against updating to IE7 until such time as the final patch comes out for version 6.7. If you are using an even older version of GoldMine (like 4.0, 5.0, 5.5, 5.7, 6.0, 6.5 or 6.6) it just might be time to finally upgrade to 6.7 when this patch hits the streets as there is not going to be an IE7 compatibility patch for any of the older versions of GoldMine.
As one might expect, GoldMine 7.0 works fine with IE7. Without a standard edition of 7.0, however, this leaves a lot of people out in the cold, for the moment. Here’s wishing the QA department fair winds and following seas in their testing of the forthcoming patches for both the 7.0 and 6.7 versions of GoldMine!
Microsoft has provided instructions, here, on how to prevent Internet Explorer 7 from being automatically installed on your machine.
Worth noting is the fact that IE7 is not available for Windows 2000 users and therefore is not a problem for the servers and workstations out there who continue to use what I consider the best desktop OS to come from Microsoft thus far.
GoldMine.com has simply redirected visitors to www.frontrange.com for years now. Not anymore. Now it is focused on the GoldMine product! Visitors can review technical content, white papers, product demonstrations, etc. — all without having to sift through the other Frontrange product offerings.
Problem: GoldMine throws an error, “Insufficient Memory for This Operation” and never runs.
Solution: Bring up the windows task manager via the CTRL-ALT-DEL keystroke (press it only once! Twice and your machine will likely reboot, losing any work in any open applications) and end-task on all instances of gmw6.exe. Alternately, you could just reboot the PC.
Explanation: Sometimes it may take a few seconds to come up with the GoldMine login screen after the icon is double-clicked. This is just a fact of life when your machine may be running some sort of VPN connectivity software, anti-virus, anti-spyware, defrag utilities, three different remote access packages, Oulook, three instances of Word, 6 instances of Excel, two instant messenger programs and ten browser pages. With such a degree of information overload, we can get a tad impatient and double-click the GoldMine icon again. Unlike pressing the elevator button over and over, double-clicking the icon again doesn’t help — in fact, it’s counter-productive and is likely to result in this error message.

GoldMine 7.0.4’s long-awaited patch should arrive soon. Word is that it’s receiving quite a bit of testing. This is the 7.0 patch to look out for and should be a breath of fresh air for long-suffering 7.0 users. Stay tuned.
GoldMine 6.7 will soon be patched to provide compatibility with Internet Explorer 7 and some other unspecified bug fixes. This has been confirmed by Frontrange here.
From that post:
Internet Explorer 7.0 released on October 19th, 2006 has known incompatibilities with all 6.x and 5.x versions of GoldMine.
GoldMine Corporate Edition 7.0 is not affected. The most severe known issue involves the loss of the HTML toolbar buttons from the e-mail composition window and customers report other various HTML related problems.
FrontRange Solutions plans to release a patch via NetUpdate for GoldMine version 6.7 to address Internet Explorer 7 compatibility and will follow up with an announcement when it is available. Until then we recommend against installing Internet Explorer 7 unless you are using GoldMine Corporate Edition 7.0.
Please be aware that Microsoft will begin downloading Internet Explorer 7 via Windows Automatic Updates staring November 1st, 2006.

Long time readers may recall part 1 of this story. There is finally a part 2!
I have set up a private forum on the Castell Computers Contact Review message board.
If you don’t already have an account there, please sign up. Once you have an account, let me know your account user name and I will give you access to the OpenOffice beta forum, where, hopefully, we can work together to finish up this link!
Download details for the current version of the link can be found in the forum!
There are many GoldMine forums, blogs, add-ons, consultants, etc. available. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to search all their on-line content from one place? Now you can!
I’ve come across an interesting site that lets you brew up your own community-powered search engine. It allows one to mix in specific pages, results from other search engines and various other resources to provide search results to users. Beyond the ability to limit the resources that are searched, the results are promoted (and demoted) by the people who use them. Once enough users participate, the theory is that the results get better and better!
I went ahead and set up a search engine for GoldMine content, including some of my favorite resources. Sure, it may be a little heavy on Castell Computers content, but hey, I’m biased. Given that the users of the engine will, no doubt, promote good content, I’m sure things will even out. I guess we’ll see, right?
