I discovered that the hard way <g>.

Is there any reason you seperated them with pipes | ?
Or would any non-numberic character have worked?

I'm using GM 6.5 and to includes the ( ) and - when it retrieves the number.

Is there any SQL function that will trip out the non numeric portions of the Phone1, etc. strings?

Bob, just to clarify, did you purchase those additional GMCE 6.7 licenses from FrontRange?

Their response does not make any sense. My experience is that if a client is on GMCE 6.7 and their maintenance is current, they can still get support. The latest version of GMCE is 7.5?. We are expecting an update to be released after they have release GMPE9 (maybe next month). I just purchased 5 additional licenses for a client who is on GMCE 6.7.

I'm not a VAR anymore so I am not in the loop and I called Frontrange (do this once a year) and asked them if they are planning on not supporting GMCE 6.7 anytime soon.

The answer I got was this: If there is a GMCE 8 then we will otherwise we wont.

now that makes zippo sense to me. Does anyone know? I am not envisioning frontrange making a GMCE 8. i get the impression that they are not going to ever make an 8 and they are pouring their attn into premium

You might be able to change it using the FlameRobin utlilty, or at least it might let you set up a new username which can be used to log into the database.

I have a client that has forgotten their gmsysdba password and wants to create 2 new databases. I have searched (and tried) a number of command line methods to change the password but none have worked.

Is there a FRS supported way to change gmsysdba password?

Thanks

You cannot remove the first %. The query concatinates the three phone numbers into one string seperated by pipes (in the format 12345 | 67890 | 54321) and then searches it for the number in question. The % are wildcards and tell SQL to look for the number anywhere in the string. If you remove the first % then it will start searching at the very beginning of the string, meaning that if the number is phone2 or phone3 it will not find it.

BTW, I find the query is more helpful if I remove the first "%" so that it starts searching with the start of the phone number, so that I can search on area code if necessary (e.g., "540").

Downside of this is that if someone's area code has changed (seems to happen rarely these days) the %phone#% search is better b/c you could search for the last 7 digits occurring within the field.

You may need to use coalesce. Try the updated query:

select Accountno, Company, Phone1, Phone2, Phone3 from contact1
where coalesce(phone1,'') + '|' + coalesce(phone2, '') + '|' + coalesce(phone3, '') like '%1234567%'

The query works well when there are values in all 3 phone fields but when I dont have
a value in Phone 3, nothing is found. If I enter a value in Phone 3 and then remove it, the
query works with an empty Phone 3).

Does anyone else experience this? Is there a quick "not null" clause that can be inserted
to prevent this? I am using GoldMine Premium 8.5.
what tabs are open within GoldMine and in what state are they?

For instance, if you have your most recently viewed contact set to view the history tab of some record where there are 15,000 history items, you might see a slowdown.

Also, is your calender, e-mail center, activity list, etc. open as well? If so, you might see a slowdown as all these windows have their data populated upon startup.

Try this: close all the tabs other than the contact one. Go to the SUMMARY or NOTES tab there. Close GoldMine. Reopen it.

What sort of speed do you see?

Are you a local administrator on the machine? Is GoldMine running as an administrator? If not, in some environments, it may not be able to get various DLL files and whatnot copied to the local \program files\goldmine\ folder and may, therefore, be annoyed about that and attempting to copy them, fielding error messages from windows and moving on during the startup routine.
