Just a quickee - Perhaps?

I've achived several years or e-mails - but - the mail file APPEARS to be nearly 2 gig.

How do I shrink it? GBX or ??

If you've run the Global Delete, then pack and rebuild Mailbox (use GoldMine). That should free up some space.

I just noted a mistake in a post of mine above.

I referred to doing a Global Delete of the Mailbox table. That was incorrect; the Global Delete should be of the History table, not Mailbox. I think you may have figured that out, for two reasons: 1) there is no dedicated Global Delete of the Mailbox table; and 2) we were discussing the History pointer at that time. It is the Global Delete of History that has the two switches that allow you to leave the History record in place, and while at the same time delete the Mailbox record to which it points. Sorry about that.

Just an update Tuesday 5/10/11

Did the Global delete and BR Pack (Don't think I've EVER done a Pack before) and shrunk the Maik DBT to about 1,875,000.
I suppose it's enough to give me some breathing room but, I guess I've got to think about asafer lmid and long term strategy.

At the end of the day 95% of my mail is - expendable. That is, graphic intensive ads from e-cost, NewEgg, Travel outfits. While all of these have some value at the time they are received (I don't want to dump them immediately) they have a limited shelf life.

Pretty basic question: If I were to DELETE and entire CONTACT where mail fron i.e.NEWEGG is filed would the mail be deleted (so I could PACK it subsequently) or would it be orphaned but somehow still taking up space in the Mail folders?

Maybe not so long term; you are closer to 2GB than I'd be willing to be.

My understanding is that when you delete a Contact in GM, it does delete all related records, including mail. GoldBox encourages you to delete records through GoldMine, and does not offer a straight Main Contact delete. However, it does offer Global Archive and Delete (found under Exports). It is a different kind of Archive (archives the entire Contact record based on a filter), and should be approached with caution.
