As the original author of DBTCHECK I was checking to see if there is a need for a newer version of DBTCHECK. I've seen some posts stating that the utility has trouble with files larger than 2GB and possibly with newer file formats so I'm deciding whether it is worth it to create one for the 21st century. Wondering too if it should have a GUI or remain a command line utility (possibly both). One advantage of the old DOS version is the lack of addtional files (DLLs, runtime engines, etc.) - I would think the same should apply to the new version.
Thanks in advance. |

Users are moving away from dBase. I have been supporting GM since 1990 and used DBTCHECK a few time to help clean up mailbox problems. While I am still helping users clean up corrupted mailbox problems, I have not had to use that your program for years.
I is a great tool but suspect that there will not be enough need for future versions now. |

Yeah, I have to agree with Bob. A GoldMine release that uses dBase files hasn't been released since early 2005 (unless you count the little patch they put out in 2007.)
As an aside, it's an honor to have you stop by my forums! Your tool has been a mainstay of the GoldMine community for a long time. |

Thanks for the replies. This is the sort of feedback I was looking for. Good to know it has been of some use. I wrote it back in the Ashton-Tate days as an exercise in C coding and portability. Looks like the the good ole DOS version has its place. I think I let it remain on top and look for other projects.
Thanks

Erik - I think you have made the right decision. Thank you so very much for DBTCHECK that saved the day many times. |

Wow! Eric McBeth!!! Dude, you're an icon around these parts! I've pondered your very existence for nearly 20 years.
I wish you'd write a new one, as I've recommended against using DBTcheck for many years after some bad experiences with large GoldMine databases. I know it seems to be dbase IV, but I don't believe it's compliant in all cases, and that it causes problems.
Also, finding 32 bit machines is getting harder and harder. |
