I have 2 computers with GoldMine on them that are off site (WV)

Currently 1 is installed and working well but due to some hacker issues cannot connect to the server (in OH) I've been doing manual transfer sets as connecting directly is no longer an option.

I need to find a way to connect the 2 WV computers to each other so that Ultimately they can share info with each other.

any suggestions???

I'd settle the 'hacker issues' first -- don't get into working on networking and sharing and so on with computers that are compromised.

From there, you can look at making one of them a remote SITE as opposed to a remote undocked user. You may need to re-install the workstation if it wasn't originally created in such a way as to be conducive to sharing in a network (in other words, it should be installed in a folder other than Program Files.)

If your undocked user ecosystem is again healthy, it might be simplest to just roll out another undocked user for the second workstation.

Sorry the Hacker issue is in Ohio at the server level. Meaning everytime we open a port to sync someone gets in & we are compromised. Regardless of the steps we take to prevent it.

So the option to set either user up to sync is no longer available.

I had originally set this computer up to sync to the server in OH.

So if I try the "remote site" vs the undocked user....I think you are saying to make the current undocked user into a remote site then just allow them to sync with each other via the network?

Not sure I've ever done an install that way so pardon me if I ask a crazy question.

1. I've never heard of anyone being hacked via port 5993 -- are you actually opening more than just that port?

2. I'm suggesting that instead of a single-user remote (U serial-based undocked user) you'd make the existing machine into a satellite office 'server' via an S license. You'd still need to sync between OH and the WV machine, regardless.

Yes from what I've been told by the IT service it's thru that port and yes that's all that's opened. I had never heard of it either, but it's happened twice now so I just sync via emailed transfer sets.

I will try the S license way.

Thank you so much!
