I have a user created status field that I need linked to a date field so that when the status of the contact is changed, the date field will automatically update with today's date. I have the d base programing skills necessary to set the date field, but am scratching my head over how to make it so that it does it based on an update and not on a value.
Any thoughts? |

Alternatively, you might like to look at The Hacker's Guide to GoldMine series of books which include a detailed chapter on me Lookup.ini. |

Thanks, that worked great, and I plan to get the Hackers guide, probably around the 2nd week of september, but in the meantime I am having one difficulty.
When I wrote the lookup ini file, it looked something like this
[AutoUpdate]
upro=updat
[updat]
Lookup1=upro
Res Profile=date()
Res Hand-off=date()
Partial Profile=date()
Hand-off=date()
Escalation=date()
2nd Half Partial=date()
Otherwise=n/a
Overwrite=1
It works fine, but it is returning the text of the dbase expression I am trying to insert. Is my syntax wrong or is there a field setting that I need to place in the program so that it will return today's date when the field is changed? |

try &date()
Anything with an & will be evaluated as an expression, without and it's taken literally. |

That was perfect, I am aware that my Dbase skills leave much to be desired, so the help is very much appreciated.
BTW...
Can anyone tell me why exporting the notes tab is such a pain?
I can import to it with ease, but it refuses to export in dbf, and annsii puts each line in seperate rows. It just seems confusing that they wouldnt have addressed this after 6 editions.
Sigh....

they have addressed it! They put the database in MSSQL in 1998. MSSQL gives you the handy DTS engine to use for exporting... |

Thanks, since I am new to MSSQL, what product line would you reccommend to support a GM 6.5 database of 10,000 contact records? |
