First of all, thank you guys for putting up a site like this. I am a member of another site like this for cars and it's been a god send to me over the years.

Okay, here is the trouble I'm having:

When trying to rebuild the databases, I get a couple error messages. The first is as follows:

Permission denied.

Context: RenameTempXFiles2: c:\program files\goldmine\mab_personal\mab_blackberry\XontTLog
c:\program files\goldmine\mab_personal\mab_blackberry\ContTLog

BDE Error Cat:Code: [43:5]
BDE: 500 [4/11/1999] GoldMine: 5.50.10424

User: MAB
Window:
Template: 8060
Details:

After I hit okay, I get another as follows:

Permission denied.

Context: create
c:\program files\goldmine\charset

1: File: c:\program files\goldmine\charset.DBF

BDE Error Cat:Code: [43:5]
BDE: 500 [4/11/1999] GoldMine: 5.50.10424

User: MAB
Window:
Template: CBError
Details:
FILENAME: c:\program files\goldmine\charset.DBF

Then, after I click okay, the maintenance window closes completely.

Any ideas on what this problem may be and I should do to fix it?

Thank you,
Mike

need to make sure you're logged into the machine with administrator access. Beyond that, my first question would be what operating system does your machine run?

Hi Doug, and thanks for the reply.

First, I'm not sure what you mean by "logged into the machine". Are you referring to the computer itself or the Goldmine program?

I am running Windows Vista Enterprise.

Not positive, but I think it is 64 bit.

I mean windows, not GoldMine.

As for being on Vista 64 bit and GoldMine 5.5, your mileage will vary greatly... One thing I'd suggest is to move from the Program files folder to somewhere else. Unfortunately, since it's been there for a while already, your files now exist in both the program files folder and in the program data folder and who knows which are the 'real' ones and which are older versions...

It's a mess that tends to happen when a dBase GoldMine is run on windows vista or windows 7 and allowed to exist in the program files tree.

Ensure that UAC is fully turned off in Vista. When it comes to issues of security and permissions it is impossible to troubleshoot any issue while UAC is turned on.

If you navigate to C:\Program Files\GoldMine can you manually create a file (any file, say a text file)?

Also, log out of GoldMine and try rename the file c:\program files\goldmine\mab_personal\mab_blackberry\ContTLog.dbf to xontlog.dbf as a test and see if it will allow you to do it.

If the GoldMine folder is shared on the network, ensure that all users have full control over the folder (ie read/write/modify/delete). Any less than this and GoldMine will not function properly.

Well, ronanc, your suggestion worked. I changed the UAC setting to "off" and re-ran the maintenance without trouble. Thank you.

Does anyone know whether you can sync Goldmine to an Iphone??

Also, does anyone know whether they make a custom template for attorneys?

Thanks again to everyone who gave me their input.

Sincerely,

Mike

No worries; UAC has been the scourge of IT support since Vista was released!

As for syncing with an iPhone, Companionlink would probably be your best bet. Check out their website http://www.companionlink.com/products/companionlink-goldmine.html
