GMPE 8.03 - about to upgrade a client from 6.7 dbase

However, we have made a lot of use of macros to make things as simple as possible for this client, including a macro where ny one click of a button they could get to a specific record (that is used a lot by everyone).

Maybe I can't see for looking, but how can I do this on PE. Before I did Lookup | Contact (or Last it doesnt make any difference), and recording the entering of the specific name required. Simple, worked well for years.

Help - this could mess up a major upgrade if I cant do it.

By reading the other Macro posting again, I realised what he was doing with using F4 to open the search centre - works brilliantly.

Great. I worked out a different solution but I like yours much better. Learn something every day - thanks.

When I recorded the macro and assigned it to a button, it automatically added this to the toolbar (which is what I wanted).

However, I need this on the toolbar for all 20 users but cannot work out how to add it to the others - please dont tell me I need to log in 20 times and record the same thing.

The taskbar is no good in PE - needs to be a very simple 1-click operation as this is for a disability charity.

I did some work for a client recently that needed just this.

I was able to pull the XML portion of their INI files in the [toolbar] section and copy it for everyone. This gave them all the toolbar buttons that point to the macros.

I then copied username.* from the macros folder for each user using a dos command:
Code:

copy bob.* jane.*

You then need to go into JANE.mac file with a tool like notepad (or, better yet, PS Pad) and edit the actual filenames listed there for the macro files (like JANE.800, etc. as opposed to BOB.800)

I'll be honest - this doesnt mean much to me. I'll pass it to someone else in the office tomorrow and let you know. Thanks for your help.

PS Pad rules. I found a replace add-on that was able to open ALL the ini files for the customer in question and find the [toolbar] section of their INI files and replace it with the desired chunk of messy XML that defined the beautifully fleshed out macro toolbars for me. It made quick work of what could have been a nightmarish couple of hours of manually editing INI files. Smile

There are a LOT of little add-ons for PS-Pad and it's really good at highlighting files.. i do a lot of SQL query writing, HTML, PHP, even VB and VB scripting in PS Pad. I can't say enough good things about this little program. It's why there's a PS-PAD button on the front page of my web site.
