We have GM 7.51 SQL and we are tring to modify the RFC822 field. Emails come in from Outlook forwarded by rule, and we need to trim the subejct "FW: " part and signature from the body. Also, to modify the header(from/to/linked to/subject). Any ideas if this is possible? At the moment as we touch the rfc822 the email come up blank in Goldmine.
Any ideas?

Thanks

You should not be touching the RFC822 field, however, it is possible via a custom 3rd party application. Talk to Doug Castell about writing one for you.

While it may be possible to accomplish this via an SQL trigger or nightly job, it's not advisable...

Note that if you implemented something to do this in 7.5, you'd probably need to modify it heavily when/if you upgraded to 8.5 or 9.0 due to the change in the field type of RFC822 to an IMAGE data type in SQL.

If you'd still like to do this, despite warnings, I can certainly accomplish it as I have, in the past, written code to modify RFC822 -- specifically, I've written an SQL script to locate and update e-mail attachment paths directly in the RFC822 field as I found the existing available attachment path updater tools all have/had some sort of bugs or limitations.

I got the message. My reply, for those interested:
Quote:

my script was written for GoldMine 8.5-9.0 and assumes the IMAGE data type. Working with the old TEXT/MEMO type fields is really cumbersome.. It's not impossible, but it's a different methodology in code...

in addition, I'll say that I'd be happy to help, but I'd underscore to the client that this may not be the best idea/course of action. If they still wish to programatically modify RFC822 fields, we can make it happen.
