Hello Folks,
When creating actions we have Calls etc. This I use extensively because I feel most actions are related to either contacting someone or waiting for a contact from someone. For me this covers almost everything and I start the Reference with one of the following which immediately tells me what to do, and is also sortable by action in lists.
@CallTo:
@EmailTo:
@ReplyTo:
@WaitEmail:
@WaitOn:
@WaitCall:

So an entry might be;
@CallTo: ABC company to followup previous email I sent to the President.
So How do people use the "Todo"s??
Since almost all actions are related to contact for me I just use "Todo"s for topics like @Research:, @Consider:, @Update:, @Create: @Idea: which covers most non-call related actions. I use these terms to start the Reference.
How do others use Todo's separately from other actions I wonder

What is your full version of GM?

When scheduling activities, I would not put "@" at the beginning of the Reference field because it could possibly cause programs if your operating system does not interpret it correctly. I would also put details in the Notes area of scheduled activities.

Concerning To-Dos, here is a quote from the Users_ Guide.pdf for GM 6.7:
Quote:
Scheduling To-Dos
You can track activities without a specific deadline in
a to-do list. Schedule to-do activities to rank-order
tasks by priority instead of placing the activities on
specific dates.
GoldMine displays these activities in a separate area
of the Day tab or Week tab in the Calendar.

I recommend checking the Users_Guide.pdf for your version of GM. You might also find good information in your GoldMine's help menu.

@dentropolis1 GTD user? Just curious.

We don't use todos at all. Next Actions and Other Actions only.

I wish there was a dashboard for actions the way there is for appts and calls.

I agree with Terry. I do not use ToDos with other contacts: I use Next Actions and Other Actions. I do use ToDos for my self where I list and prioritize actions I need to personally take.

I had designed MultiCast Gold to make To-Do type checklists under any GoldMine Activity. I still use it today, and love it a lot. However, I did sell off the Source Code to another developer so I no longer own the rights to it. I'm still waiting to see how the other developer improves it.

I am attempting to put GTD (Getting Things Done) to use with Goldmine which I have been using forever. I am trying to put the actions (calls especially) to use in a diciplined manner that allows me to keep on top of my many communications related tasks. Thanks for the imput from all.

I have been using GM with GTD since 1998.

Activities List works great for contexts. See all of your calls to make together, etc..

Good luck!

Hi Folks,
Thanks for your input on this and for stopping me from using Todo's for purposes best suited for Calls or Next Actions. So I will follow the suggestion to use Todo's for personal matters rather than contact related matters. This will prevent overlapping and confusion.
I may start another question on how users differential between Next Actions and Other Actions.
Thanks again.

We appreciate your feedback and am glad that we could help. I bet we all learned something in this process.

Make sure that you utilize Colors to differentiate between Personal and Business. This makes it more visually recognizable on the Day Calendar. You can even code the color scheme in your Lookup.ini.
