Hi folks,

Got a problem with GoldMine 5.5 after upgrading Symantec Antivirus Corp Ed. from 9 to 10.1. After I log into GM, wheneve I open up an e-mail with attachment (ANY attachment), GM would freeze.

The thing is, I could disable SAV to not scan ANYTHING but the problem still persists. Also, I've narrowed the problems down to the machines with Windows 2000 Professional. The XP machines are running fine with no problems.

Any ideas? Help!

Bob

Thanks for the tip. However, the problem persists even if I turn the AntiVirus completely OFF.

Turning off the network scanning on the folder where GoldMine resides DOES cure the initial problem of GoldMine hanging when opened. The problem with GoldMine e-mail attachment is something else entirely. I'm thinking that SAV alters system setting somehow.

By the way, the e-mails with attachments are fine in "preview" mode where the bottom-half shows the message body. It only hangs when opened.

Regards,

Bob

turning 'off' Symantec doesn't completely turn it off, unfortunately. I don't know if it works in your situation or not, but I'd suggest trying AVG on one machine and uninstalling Symantec entirely..

It's a shame they have such a big share of the market because, in my opinion, the product is a pig and does more to damage the computing experience of millions of people than it does to improve it.

Thanks, Doug. I'll do AVG for the W2K machines.

Best regards,

Bob
