Created install files for 3 remotes and all went will with 2 XP Pro machines, but one install is going on a Vista machine. The install appears to go normally, but after the initial GM install it doesn't continue with the retrieval process.
Created a new install file and same thing. |

Thanks Doug, I'll give that a shot. BTW, I've never figured out what the difference is between running as admin and the user being an admin. |

Didn't do it. Still won't launch into the retrieval. Installs GoldMine and won't go further. |

I suspect that you have installed GoldMine properly, however, because of your security settings in Vista it is not allowing the GoldMine application to run. Take a look in the Task Manager and see if GoldMine is running. If so, kill it.. Right-click on the shortcut icon, and run that application as an administrator. After you have worked with Vista long enough, you will quickly learn to turn off UAC. |

Not sure what's causing it, but gmw.exe is not running when it happens. Does nothing after the initial install except give you a clean GoldMine. It doesn't continue the process of launching and retrieving the data. |

I have seen exactly what you're wrestling with on a vista install I did.. I forget how I resolved it, exactly, but I do recall that it was an ugly business and then, eventually, it just worked. Are you installing to \Program files\ or \apps\? I find that unless the install is to be shared with multiple users, \Program Files\ is the best bet... |

It's a default install from an installation file, so \program files\ would be the place. |

if it's a really big database, I've seen the step between extracting and starting the retrieval take quite a while with no indication in between..
Wish I had something more concrete for you, but I know what you're up against as the same thing happened to me. |

It's actually a relatively small database. I'll try turning off UAC and see what happens. FRS hasn't been able to provide any clues and I'm sure it's as annoying for the customer as it is me to have to call him a few times a day and say "Let's try this".
I swear someday I'm gonna sell everything and live under a tree on some island where there's no electricity. |

You know that file labeled "ReadMe"? The one that appears with the words "Please Read This First" in bold when you install GoldMine? Now I know you guys don't read it.
18. If you are installing GoldMine on Windows Vista using an Installation File For One-Button Synchronization, GoldMine may not automatically launch to synchronize data at the end of the installation process. If this happens, please right-click on the obs.bat file, located in the GoldMine installation folder, and select Run As Administrator to complete the process. |
