I have an issue with one user where the link will not pick up the correct GoldDir and CommonDir aliases. I thought these were obtained from the real gm.ini file but after checking this is not the case.
This is only happening with one user on the network
Does anyone know exactly where this version of the outlook link picks up the GM alias details?
I have done all the usual stuff like uninstall link, uninstall Goldmine, remove add-in from outlook.
Many thanks

it gets it from the running GoldMine when you hit the 'read goldmine settings' button in the link options. If it's set wrong, though, you may need to uninstall the link and delete the left-over setting/etc. files before reinstalling the link.
On that workstation:
1. go to Start->Run and enter: %appdata%
and then browse up a level and over to the LOCAL folder where you ought to find a \Microsoft_corporation\ folder.
On my machine, that's C:\Users\doug\AppData\Local\Microsoft_Corporation\
2. Delete that folder.
3. Reinstall the GM Link and set it up normally from there. |

Thanks for that. I will try deleting that folder in appdata.
Unfortunately you can't read the GoldMine Settings in the 8.5 link. I believe that came in with version 9, and the new revamped link.
Hoping the 8.5 link uses the appdata\local\... folder. |

Sorry, it's been a while since the 8.5 link.
I'm pretty sure it used the same folder. Do a windows explorer search under the USERS tree for the \Microsoft_Corporation\ folder and you ought to get there. |

Solved the issue for GM 8.5
The outlook link doesn't necessarily look at gm.ini, but after re-installing 8.5 on a test machine, I discovered that there is an entry in the registry which is used to get the GM alias details. The entry is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GoldMine\GoldMine Link for Microsoft Outlook
Just modify the data accordingly and problem will be solved.
Hope this helps someone else in a similar situation. This issue has reminded me I must get the user on a later version. |
