Is there a way using Goldbox to remove all linked documents where it says "The file cannot be found"?
Using the Contact File Verifier, I can see we have thousands like this. We don't want to fix the links, just blow them away.
Doable? Thanks!

Obviously, Dave designed a way to identify the records with broken links (otherwise he couldn't have counted them). But I'm not sure how to get the list of RECIDs. I've asked Paul Laufer to take a look. |

I can think of a couple of options. First, if the contact file verifier finds them, then there should be a temp file created in the Goldbox folder which stores the results of the contact file verifier. After running the CFV, look in the GoldBox folder sorted by date, and you should see a reasonably large DBF file that contains the CFV data. It could be used with a mirror update to delete the contsupp records you wish to delete.
Second is the LinkedName() function, which returns the full path to a linked document from the LINKEDDOC memo field. Something like...
.not. file(LinkedName())
You could try it in an export from contsupp first to test it. |

Thanks, Paul; I believe the name of that dBase file is CONVERFY.DBF |

OK, I see how to set up a mirror update that references that Contact File Verifier database. What I don't see is how to tell Goldbox to delete records in Goldmine that match that database. Appreciate your assistance!
P.S. I found this advice from Dave, does this still apply?
Pretend like you are going to import into DETAILS. Go past the next screen where it asks for Detail Type because it doesn't matter.
Then select the Quick-Delete checkbox when you get to the Setup screen. |

Yes, as long as you have that list of Recids, a quick delete will get the job done. |

Thanks, Bob! I did this and it removed 11,000 linked docs from our database. Some records still have linked docs with broken links however. Any idea how to get to the ones that contact verifier didn't find? |

The only thing I can think of is Paul's second suggestion, an export using that function. If you get anything, you should do some good by feeding those Recids back to your first setup.
But that might be the same approach that Dave used, I don't know. I would have thought it's either a good link or it's not; maybe you have some where the coin was flipped and it landed on its edge
Anyway, let us know how that turns out, please. |
