Have a client asking about this. I always assumed that FR would add an INI setting to prevent single quotes in accountno, but have never seen one come along.
My questions
1) Anyone know of a way to prevent it yet?
2) Anyone have a tool other than the GoldBox accountno regenerator to fix it? |

What version & build of GoldMine are you talking about Paul?
It is my understanding that the current versions of GoldMine will not generate an AccountNo that contains single quotes. |

Every build.
Just created this accountno using 2015.1

Easy enough to test. Create a new contact named "D'Jay Smith" |

I've had a customer tell me that they use my castellrecnogen tool to run a nightly job that makes and assigns a new accountno for such problematic records... |

Interesting. I know that Albert has a copy of that somewhere. Is the documentation online or with the package? |

There are example scripts included with the package, but that's about it. The main parts are three functions called like this:

I don't think there is a need to create a new accountno. All that needs to be done is to replace the single quote (or double quote) with another character and you do this for all tables with an accountno column. This way, all accounts are still in sync between related tables.
Update contact1 set Accountno = replace(accountno,'''','1') where accountno like '%''%'
Update conthist set Accountno = replace(accountno,'''','1') where accountno like '%''%'
Update contsupp set Accountno = replace(accountno,'''','1') where accountno like '%''%'
Update mailbox set Accountno = replace(accountno,'''','1') where accountno like '%''%'
...and add more update queries for other tables
this is not sync aware of course.....but if you want it to sync, simply insert tlog records for each accountno that was replaced and they could be using the same syncstamp which you can also generate either castellgen or by simply creating a new record and use the same syncstamp generated by that new record.
the method above is actually used by the DBX tool plus it makes it sync aware by adding the appropriate tlogs
