Windows 2008 server requires GMPE to be installed in a split fashion. Some files go into the \\Program Files (x86) folder and other to the Program Data folder.
Is it still possible to have multiple mutually exclusive GMPE installs running on the same server (i.e. Windows 2008/SQL 2008). I did this under Windows 2003/SQL 2005 combination and it worked very well.
These GMPE installations are not large but they do have significantly different functional customizations.
Thanks in advance.

don't install to program files -- especially on a server. When you install to the program files tree, windows (from vista on up) uses the \programdata\...\ folders to make copies of files for users under different security profiles and it can be a ridiculous nightmare.
So, yeah. Never install to program files and you ought to have as much ability as you had previously to host multiple GoldMine shares on the machine. Of course, I wouldn't generally recommend that you do that because it can get to be a mess trying to manage the shared folders, registry pointers, etc.
Personally, I'd just roll out a virtual server to be the GoldMine app server for the secondary installation. You can use the same SQL server for both (of course make sure you have separate databases and all that.) |
