Years ago, an old client had GMPE 2013.1.0.298 installed in SQL Server 2008 R2 on a Windows 7 Pro SP1, 64-bit then had his wife on a separate Windows 7 Pro workstation successfully access his GM across the Internet after I finally got the Windows Firewall under proper control.
He lost is original computer and got a new Windows 7 Pro SP1, 64-bit and I installed his same GMPE on his new computer.
When trying to connect his wife to his new computer, her workstation appears to be properly accessing the GMPE on the new computer but I keep getting the following error when trying to log into GM from her workstation:
[DBNETLIB] [ConnectionOpen (Connect0).]SQL Server does not exist or access is denied.
Native Code 17
Source Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
I turned the Windows Firewall off on both computers and still got this error. I then turned them on and added Port 1433 and 1434 but still got the same error.
Could you possibly suggest another way to enable her connection?
Many Thanks,
Bob Gannett |

across the internet or intranet? Is this a LAN or WAN situation? the former can be much more complicated to accomplish with port forwarding and whatnot.
If it's simply a LAN, you may have to enable/configure the TCP/IP and/or named pipes listeners on the SQL server. By default, SQL Express tends to only enable the shared memory protocol. |
