Hello,
Currently we are using GMPE 8.02, but plan to upgrade to 8.03 in the near future.
Is their a way to upgrade the application in the background? (ie. when a user logs into their computer).
The reason I ask is our users are not administrators of their PC's and cannot install any software on their machines.(winxp) I've been running the upgrade on our test system and unless we make all of our users administrators or walk around to each computer and login as an administrator to install, the application will not upgrade. With our current user settings the goldmine application does not even open, since the program is trying to upgrade before running.
Are their specific exe's or dll that should/could be copied? can those just be copied from the server to the client to upgrade the install? Just curious how large companies with may users would upgrade all their clients.
Thanks for any help.
Greg

I believe that this is going to be a featuring GoldMine 8.5, however, as of GoldMine 8.03, I do not believe that this is available. |

no, you pretty much have to run it as an administrator from their machine... |

You could look at a tool like Scriptlogic's Desktop Authority:
http://www.scriptlogic.com/Products/DesktopAuthority/
... it is a very helpful tool for managing Windows desktops and enables you to do the installation via scripting which can run as the Administrator. No need to visit each desk. Plus it as remote control which enables you to remote onto any desktop through a web browser. |

Eric - that is very interesting. If you were upgrading 25 users to PE, could this be used to do the local installation on each workstation? thanks for sharing. |
