Hey Bob.

Give us the lowdown, please, if you would be so kind. (And brilliant.)

Let me tell you what I can do so far in GoldBox.

groups.
And switching user names.
Q-files and launching.

But not very clear about much else. Embarassed Can't really sort out org charts and would love to know how to update fields automatically, if a record exists in a certain group. All that still a bit above my head.

But this facility - attaching opps, would be a fab help to my business. Any pointers for a duffer...?

MANY thanks!

Would need to know exactly what version of GX you have, for the question about OrgCharts. And did you read my reply on attaching opps in your other thread?

PS

Wow. I LOVE using GoldBox when I know how to do stuff.

I now KNOW how to update fields automatically, if a record exists in a certain group. All that is now NOT above my head!

That, combined with Qfiles, awesome...

(not the right board, I know, but just to finish the thought started in this post...)

OK, then you don't want to use the OrgChart Builder; it's there, and will work, but it's obsolete. Instead, you want to use the Virtual OrgChart Builder, which is under Views. It will seem odd at first, but once you see it in action, you'll like it. Do the following:

1. Menu option Views | GoldBox Views - Setup Wizard

2. Radio button Create a New Setup, and Next

3. Next again.

4. Radio button Virtual Organization Chart, Next

5. Select your BDE Alias for your GoldMine Contact Set. If you don't have one, abandon and post that, so I can tell you how to create it.

6. If you do have the BDE, Select Contact1 as the table. The field will be up to you, but most folks use Company for the top level of the chart. Click Next

7. Check the OPTIONAL box. Next

8. Fill in the usual info that you do when creating a Setup.

The Setup screen will open up; it will look intimidating, but you are almost there. You'll need to add additional fields for the "breaks". At this point, either post back, or read the Help on Virtual Org Charts.

Hello Bob

I want to apologise for not having noticed this for some reason. I guess the email came in to my inbox alerting me, but it passed unnoticed. Apologies, therefore, for ignoring you after this extremely helpful post.

It's 3.30am so I won't stop now to try this out. But thanks! I will do so soon and get back to you.

A great great help Bob. Thank you. Back soon.

Hi Bob

Managed to folllow your instructions. When it came to the BDE I just made something up and it didn't seem to mind. I just entered the words "VIRTUALORG" and it was ok.

I went as far as you describe, but then it got to the SQL query and there I scratched my head a bit. Not because of the query language, but I was a bit stumped as to understanding what kind of query I could put in that would do for everything.

I don't have, like, one routine way I display org charts. There's all sorts of different situations. I mean, I'm not merely wanting to always display sales reps regional areas, or anything like that.

Would this be for me, then? Rolling Eyes

I'm also not clear as to what happens next. I mean, I'd love the pay off, I'd love to see what this thing does. Do you have to load it all the time, though? Before you see the org chart on a particular record?

All fascinating....

Thanks so far Bob! Wink

C'mon, now Clare. You should know you can't fake something like the BDE. You have to create one if you don't have one. You may as well delete the Setup you have, because it won''t work. You can go back through and re-create it afresh, and when you get to the BDE page in the wizard, click the button at the top of the page, "IF YOU NEED TO CREATE A BDE ALIAS, CLICK HERE". Click the second button on the page that appears; select your database; and type in a name for the Alias (like GM_Common). No spaces. That creates it; then you have to select it, and the Contact1 table. Finish out the wizard as before. GoldBox will create the query.

But before going any further with it, let me quote you: "...but I was a bit stumped as to understanding what kind of query I could put in that would do for everything."

"I don't have, like, one routine way I display org charts. There's all sorts of different situations. I mean, I'm not merely wanting to always display sales reps regional areas, or anything like that."

Now, I know you artsy types don't much care for rules, but when it comes to something like constructing OrgCharts, you will either have rules, or you will have no OrgCharts. If your will be wanting different kinds of charts, you'll be needing different kinds of GoldBox Setups.

So let's take a crawl before we can walk approach. Just finish up your setup, and when you get to the completed setup, run the query that GoldBox provides. It should return records, and that's all that matters. Then, when you try to close the setup, it should ask you if you want a Launch string. Answer Yes, and save when it gives you (the top line, for Taskbar shortcuts) to an open Notepad. .

Then allow the Setup to close. Create a Taskbar button in GoldMine, using the launch string you saved. If you have questions about this, post them. Finally, when the button is ready, press it and see what you get. That's a start.

Hi all

1 Does anyone please have a list to hand of the codes for the colours in fileds?

2 And, is it possible to put multiple conditions in fields to change colour of data?

I have this:-

iIf(CONTACT2->uml="Yes", 255, -1)

This works nicely, changing the default dark blue to RED when the field is populated with 'Yes' .

But what I'd love to be able to do is have it go to red for 'yes' and green for NO, and purple if something else. I've tried messing about with multiple conditions in brackets, but it didn't work...

Any ideas gratefully received.

PS
Assume throughout that I can't spell COLOR because I'm a Brit. Alternatively, you can't spell COLOUR because you're Yanks.

Doug - wow.....!

That's incredible. Well nicked.

Thanks for this. I will play with my new paintbox when I have time!. I fancy a little bit of BlancheAlmond myself. Or possibly DarkGoldenRod.

Razz

PS A lot of goodies have been lurking on your site unbeknown to me. Hmm. This looks good... esp the insufficient disk space fix. Nice. I've been doing that one manually for years.

Sorry to hear you're running out of ideas Doug.

Wouldn't want to encourage any slacking.

How about a deep study into how best to use activity and result codes?
