FYI
If anyone intends to run Crystal Reports 11 templates within GMPE 9.0 on a Windows 64bit platform then make sure to use the 32bit version of the ODBC Administrator program (odbcad32.exe) located in the following directory on the server or client.
%systemdrive%\Windows\SysWOW64
Yes that's typed right.....
Be aware that the ODBC Administrator available under the Administrative Tools >> Data Sources (ODBC) is a 64bit version of the (odbcad32.exe) program and it creates 64 bit System DSN that is NOT compatible with GMPE 9.0. Believe it or not the 64bit odbcad32.exe is located in the following folder:
%systemdrive%\Windows\System32
Typical Microsoft .........32bit apps in a folder named SysWOW64 and a 64bit apps in a folder named System32 with both executables named exactly the same way.

Is there some type of procedure that you have to perform to get Crystal Reports 11 to run with GMPE 9.0? I have both and just installed Crystal Reports last week and would like to start using them. |

This is what works for me:
1. Don't bother installing Crystal Reports v11 Designer on the server. always design your reports from a workstation. I'm pretty sure that Crystall 11 will not install on windows Server 2003 anyway.
2. Install the FrontRange supplied Crystal 11 Runtime on every workation that will execute a Crystal report from within the GMPE 9.x interface.
3. Setup an ODBC connection aka System DSN on each workstation preferrably using the SQL Native client drivers (SQL Server driver may not retuirn all records). Use the Windows ODBC Administrator utility located in the Control Panel under Administrative Tools.
NOTE: 64-bit workstations should use the instructions listed in the first posting of this thread.
Other items to remember:
- FRS changed the Notes fields in several of the tables to Image Field Types.. Crystal can not process this data correctly without converting it to text. This can be done several ways.
a.) create Crystal SQL expressions
b.) create a SQL View
Either method would use a formula such as this in the Crystal SQL expression or in the MS SQL View itself:
cast(cast(cal.notes as varbinary(max))as varchar(max)) or
cast(cast(conthist.notes as varbinary(max))as varchar(max)) or
- Always apply the most recent Crystal reports service packs |

Thanks! This one helped me out with a client today!
Helps if I read my own forums, eh? |

Doug
No problem. This is the place to come to get the best feedback from everyone. Thanks for establishing this in the first place.

FYI:
I noticed today that there is an icon labled ODBC (32-bit) in the Windows 7 SP1 Control Panel.
Although it's labeled 32-bit it actually is pointing to the 64-bit executable.
The only easy way to tell which ODBC Admin program is which is to make note of the drivers list. The 32-bit ODBC Admin program will list 15 - 20 drivers and the 64-bit ODBC Admin will list 2. |
