Hello all,

I have a customer who is going from goldmine 6,7 dbase to goldmine pe 8.01.
They use goldbox to import into a date field and two charaCTER FIELDS.I THINK THEY also use it to pull data from external source also.

Any tricks or tips on this upgrade? I did read that there are issues with date fieldsand querying sql tables instead of dbase it will be sql 2005 also.

Thanks
Una

The best thing I can tell you is to produce the LifeRing for each setup you have in GX-5. Except for Views, you'll have to manually re-create every Setup. Even Views will require some modification, because "date fields" in SQL are retrieved by GoldBox as Character Type fields. Not difficult, but not automatic.

thanks bob

Life rings worked a treat had to change my 2005 sql database to version 80 compatibility to get old goldbox fired up eventually.

it was erasing my last names on my match records so i have removed that expression actual last

Yes, ActualLast() works, but if you want it not to overwrite what's there, you need to use an Update Expression. Generally don't use Lastname in a match expression, but your data may dictate that you do.

Yes, it should do no harm.
