I have a .dbf file to import using Goldbox. There are several rows in this list with the same company name and the only difference is the Contact Name. I would like to add the company only once, preferably the CEO or President and then put the other contacts as additional contacts. How would you prepare the data before importing or does GoldBox overlook duplicate data in the Source if I Bypass matches?
Perhaps a formula in Excel that will only generate a list of unique companies? |

You have not told me which version of GoldBox you have. The only possible correct answers are GoldBox 5 or GXSQL. |

There are two possible ways to get Source data when you want to create Contacts the way you do: 1) Have the Source file structured so that all the Contacts are in the same record; and 2) As you have, each Contact has its own record.
GoldBox's Plug-Ins handle the first option easily. But the second one is not so easy. I'd probably do it this way:
1. Make a copy of your Source file, with a slightly different name.
2. Use GoldBox's Dedupe One dBase Table to remove all the extra instances of each Company in the COPY.
3. Use GoldBox's General dBase Table Import/Update to update a field (most any field) of the original Source table for the records in the COPY.
4. Do an Import of Additional Contacts using the original Source table, filtering out the records you just updated.
Of course, I tend to discourage the use of Additional Contacts, but I understand why people want to use them. |
